Prospect Report: Nadir Lewis Hits For The Cycle

0

Nadir Lewis, OF, Giants: Just six games into his professional career, Lewis already has a night he’ll remember for the rest of his life. San Francisco’s 20th-round pick in 2023 collected four hits in his first four at-bats on Monday. They went like this:

First inning: Double
Second inning: Home run
Third inning: Single
Fourth inning: Triple

If you’re scoring at home, that’s a cycle in just four innings. In the major leagues, that feat has happened just once: Mike Lansing of the Rockies did it on June 18, 2000.

Lewis played just four games for Princeton this past season and had just one hit—a home run. After the season, he excelled for Boone of the Coastal Plain League, where he hit .412/.483/.637 with five home runs and 10 RBIs.

No matter how the rest of his career goes, the first four innings of his game on Aug. 7, 2023 will likely stand as one of the best days of Lewis’ career.

Gavin Williams, RHP, Guardians: The Cleveland pitching factory continues unabated. The Guardians’ top prospect put forth the best effort of his young career on Monday night, going seven strong innings and striking out a dozen hitters against the Blue Jays. He got 17 swings and misses during the course of the outing and put himself two outs away from graduating from the world of prospects.

Mike Boeve, 3B, Brewers: Milwaukee’s second-round pick from this year’s draft continued his early-career tear on Monday in the ACL. In the first inning against the Rangers, he connected on a three-run home run. The blast was Boeve’s third in just eight career games. Three innings later, he did it again, adding a second three-run home run and notching the first multi-homer game of his career.

Quinn McDaniel, 2B, Giants: San Francisco’s fifth-round pick from the 2023 draft reached a career milestone on Monday. Facing the Royals’ team in the ACL, McDaniel, a Maine alum, clubbed his first career home run. That the blast—which stayed inside the park—led off the game added just a little bit more spice. For an encore, he homered again an inning later, as part of a frame that helped give his club a 13-run lead after just two frames.

Walker Jenkins, OF, Twins: To this point, Jenkins’ professional career could not have gone much better. Entering Monday, he had four hits in his first eight at-bats. On Monday, in his first two at-bats he doubled and collected a grand slam for his first professional home run in his team’s win over its counterpart from the Rays.

Maxton Martin, OF, Rangers: Texas’ 11th-round pick from the 2023 draft got his name into the record books on Monday. The Washington high school product made his professional debut in the Arizona Complex League and homered in his second career at-bat.
